Marlabs invests in KPO division
Marlabs India, a subsidiary of Marlabs Inc, has set up a new KPO division within its Bangalore and Mysore offices providing services to the health insurance segment in the US. The company plans to invest $7 m for the expansion. Marlabs also plans to increase its staff from 400 to over 2000 employees in the next 18 months.

Aviva awards $1 b data centre services contract to EDS

The Insurance group, Aviva has awarded its data center services contract to EDS. The 10-year contract is worth $1 b. As per the agreement, EDS will transform and manage Norwich’s two data centers. These centers will begin operations in July 2009 to service UK, India, France and Ireland locations of Aviva. Also, 300 employees from Aviva will be shifted to EDS.

Europcar extends IT outsourcing contract to Unisys

The European rental provider, Eurocar has renewed its IT outsourcing contract with Unisys Corporation. The financial details of the contract were not disclosed. As per the contract, Unisys will create master software images for Windows and Linux desktops, will provide technical assistance for resolution of service events and manage support services for desktops and IT infrastructure. The services will be provided to 1,800 commercial agencies located across Europe.

Capita posts strong results for 2008
Capita has reported £336 m increase in revenues as against 2007, an increase of 18%. The operating profit declared was also up £320.9 m as against the previous year. The company plans to further grow through acquisitions in 2009.

HCL BPO eyes BPO firms in the US, UK and Australia
HCL BPO is looking at buying loss-making or marginally profitable BPO companies with revenues of up to $250 m. The preferred destination for the acquisitions are the US, UK and Australia. N Ranjit, CEO, HCL BPO said that the acquisitions will be mainly from English speaking countries that derive revenues from output or outcome-based pricing and platform-led services.

Accenture to open a new center in Chengdu

Accenture plans to set up a global delivery center in Chengdu. The company has signed agreements with the Sichuan government. The new center will provide BPO services. This new set up is important for the regional and global development strategy of the company according to Campbell, CEO, Accenture Global Outsourcing.

Aegis offers $130 m for ICT Group
Aegis BPO has proposed to acquire the Nasdaq-listed US based ICT group for $8 per share in cash. The offer is at a 71 percent premium to ICT Group’s 30-day weighted average closing price of the company’s shares. This acquisition will scale up operations, expand geographical foothold and provide diverse clients to Aegis. ICT Group offers customer care services primarily to the US-based companies that includes Pfizer, Washington Mutual, and Virgin Mobile USA. The company has centers in Australia, Mexico, Philippines, Costa Rica, India, Ireland, UK, Canada, and Argentina.
