Unilever awards procurement outsourcing contract to IBM
Unilever signed a procurement outsourcing contract with IBM to transform and manage procurement of non-production items (NPI) for its European operations. As per the contract, IBM will implement the global procurement system for NPI in Europe over the next two years. The maintenance services will be carried out by IBM from its Bangalore center.

Integreon buys ONSITE3
Integreon Managed Solutions, a subsidiary of Philippines-based Ayala Group, has acquired Virginia-based ONSITE3 for $9 m. ONSITE3 filed for bankruptcy following which it was acquired by Integreon. ONSITE3 specializes in electronic evidence solutions for law firms and corporations. With this acquisition, Integreon will expand its scalability and US footprint in litigation and compliance services. Liam Brown, CEO, Integreon said that the acquisition will result in the creation of a $40 m national e-discovery division of Integreon.

Satyam to sign HR outsourcing deal with Hewitt
Satyam Computer Services plans to award its HR services contract to Hewitt Associates. As per the deal, Hewitt will develop and implement the new HR policies to retain and attract employees. Additionally, the company will verify the existence of 53,000 employees in Satyam.

Delhi-based law firm sets up new LPO
Delhi-based law firm Singh and Associates has partnered with Cosmos Infra Engineering India Pvt. Ltd. to set up one of the largest LPOs in India. The firm located in Dwarka, New Delhi plans to hire 500 people.

Steria reported 1% rise in its Q4 and annual revenue
The IT consultancy and outsourcing firm Steria has reported its Q4 2008 results. The company has reported revenues of $581 m in Q4 2008, a 1% rise as compared to $575.38 m in Q4 2007. For FY 2008, the revenues have risen 1% to $2.23 b. The annual BPO and consulting revenues of the company grew by 1% respectively.

Mexico's social security agency awards $68 m contract to Vangent
Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS), a social security agency signs a three-year $68 m contract with Vangent. As per the contract, Vangent will design and implement a biometric identification (ID) management system. The system will provide ID management services through 700 enrollment centers nationwide to over 20 million beneficiaries. Also, the company will manage the entire beneficiary enrollment procedure including the distribution of ID cards.

Indian BPOs eye UK Government IT contracts
UK's state-owned departments, Department of Work and Pensions (DWP), HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and Ministry of Justice are preparing to tender $2-3 b worth of IT outsourcing contracts. The UK government is looking to improve its technology systems and lower the cost of managing the IT systems anywhere between 25-40%. Due to the scarcity of competent professionals and lack of cost effective local vendors, offshoring has been considered. TCS, Infosys and Wipro are some of the Indian service providers contending for the contract.
