Kotak signs IT infrastructure contract with IBM
Kotak Mahindra Bank has signed an IT infrastructure contract valued at $5 m with IBM. As per the contract, IBM will design, create and maintain a green data center and a converged IP network infrastructure for Kotak Bank. This will facilitate the bank to save $1.2 m in operational efficiency over the next five years.
  
IGNOU to have six BPO training centers in India
The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has planned to open BPO training centers in Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, Tiruchi and Puducherry. Accenture will facilitate the university to set up the centers. The University has planned to start a diploma course in BPO beginning February 2009.
   
Hexaware restructures organization 
Hexaware Technologies, an IT company, has restructured its organization to focus on three main verticals namely banking financial services and insurance (BFSI), travel and transportation, and emerging markets verticals. The emerging markets verticals will focus on manufacturing and healthcare sector. Yogendra Shah, Deepak Rao, Anirban Chakraborty will head the travel and transportation, BFSI and emerging markets vertical respectively. According to P Chandrasekar, CEO of the company, "the planned structure will facilitate aggressive account mining, strengthening and development of the respective business units."
   
Infosys plans to merge IT and BPO operations
Infosys plans to merge the IT and BPO operations to ease operational costs. In the midst of the global economic slowdown, this will facilitate the company to offer customers value added services at the same price.
   
Friends Provident signs IT outsourcing contract with IBM
Friends Provident, a life and pension firm, has awarded a 10-year IT outsourcing contract to IBM. As per the contract, IBM will provide technology infrastructure services including hardware and software services to the company. The contract includes transferring 200 employees of Friends to IBM.
   
GXS acquires Interchange Servicos 
GXS, a B2B e-commerce company based in the US, has acquired Interchange Servicos, a Brazilian based company. The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed. Interchange Servicos provides electronic data interchange (EDI) services, which will be integrated with GXS's trading grid to deliver integration opportunities and enable clients to use B2B managed services.
