Blackstone acquires majority stake of CMS Blackstone bought a majority stake in the outsourcing unit of CMS Computers. The unit primarily offers IT outsourcing services to the domestic market along with printing solutions and ATM cash management services. Rajiv Kaul, the former CEO of Microsoft India will head this new unit. While the value of the transaction was not disclosed, industry experts expect it to be around Rs. 2.5 b. Infosys to expand its R&D skills After winning a transformation outsourcing contract from the British Telecom, Infosys Technologies plans to expand its R&D capabilities to expand its clientele in the segment. Infosys expects its customer-focused research and innovations from their software engineering and technology labs to help them provide a competitive advantage in bagging large transformational deals. Satyam BPO plans growth through M&As Satyam BPO, which is currently making losses, expects to earn profits in the next two years. The company reported revenues of Rs 556.2 m in the second quarter, indicating a growth of 15%, in the second quarter. According to V. Srinivas, CFO, Satyam, 75% of the company’s revenues were from high-end transaction processing business while the remaining 25% was from the voice-based business. The company plans to grow its business through acquisitions. HCL BPO to expand in transaction-based services HCL BPO plans to expand its services and shift from voice-based to transaction-based services through acquisitions. The company also plans to gradually add platform-based services to its services portfolio. The company recently acquired US-based Control Point Solutions and UK-based Liberata Financial Services to move to transaction-based outsourcing. Satyam to open center in Qatar Satyam has obtained clearance from the government to set up operations in Qatar. The company currently has 100 consultants providing consulting, systems integration and outsourcing solutions to companies in Qatar. The company’s revenue in the Middle East region increased three-folds in the six months from April to September this year. Infosys to focus on Europe and Japan Infosys Technologies plans to grow in Europe and Japan through acquisitions. The company has set aside $600 m to $700 m for acquiring European and Japanese companies specializing in consultancy, BPO, SAP and enterprise applications. Guthy-Renker extends its BPO services contract with EDS Guthy-Renker extends its BPO services contract with EDS. The four-year contract is valued at $531 m. As per the contract, the company will provide consumer direct services which include order and payment processing, call center and warehouse and fulfillment services. In addition, it will assist in designing, developing, deploying and operating an integrated global order management and customer relationship management system. Wipro eyes Australia The Australian government has waived rules concerning the security accreditation issues. The federal contracts can now be outsourced to overseas companies in Australia.
