Investing Overseas: Indian Pharma’s global foray Print E-mail

The past 2-3 years in the Indian pharmaceutical industry has witnessed two distinct trends – one, wherein MNCs have explored the India shores through acquisitions and the second, where Indian companies have expanded their global footprints, built  front-end presence in the US/ European/ South Asian market via inorganic routes (mergers or acquisitions). And it is the latter trend, which is emerging to be stronger of the two.

The pharmaceutical sector leads the outbound deals in terms of value. Of the nearly USD 2.5 billion worth of M&A deals in 2006, approximately USD1.25 billion were outbound deals.
